To do lists, hate or love?

Birthdays, Thanks Giving and now Christmas and New Years are just around the corner. I was mulling over a mem about what New Years Eve will look like for you (Party or Night In), no options were given for the way I will be spending it. In a warm bed, preferably asleep, I will say hi to the new year the moment the sun peeks over the villages concrete homes.

Until then, my days are packed full of bettering myself and kids. Solving real world problems that exist in my bubble of a world. Teaching, learning, growing and expanding into this world its easy and then its not. Frustrating doing the same thing over and over again until something clicks.  The times when things click and work out are far and few between. The rest of the time its life, a circle of events that never end with hopes of influencing something greater then myself.

I have so many ideas and not enough time to do it all. Scheduling is something that has helped, I hate it... and love it, only because it works. I really need to get back to doing this so I can have more fun creating instead of checking off the list of things to get done.

What are some things that keep you motivated and doing the things you love?

Rose Bolers after Spring

Spring break is over and now I have a little something to show for it. I am happy to get theses little bolero vests painted, sewn together and photographed.

They are really fun to sew, I am thinking about doing a little draft your own tutorial, if enough people are interested just leave me a comment below.

Remember back when my baby helped me paint, well this is the result, the one on the right with red roses. Her lovely painting is displayed on the bottom rite corner. I did fill in a little where she left me some space but together I think we did a pretty good job. This is one project I will always love and keep around for her but if you like it too you can get one "made to order" here in my etsy shop Silkdribble.

Theses are the things that keep me up at night, until the next project comes I hope you enjoy theses pretty little vests.

It's a Wrap Pink Orchids Scarf

When I first started this project I just wanted to do something with out so much planning, just go with it and see where it takes me. Sometimes it works out, the first time around it didn't but I just took a little more time with it, and there it was like a slap in the face. I was almost dumbfounded over the simple moment that took me nearly a year to reach.  A moment of clarity and and extra boost to finished this lovely scarf.  My favorite wrap is the beach wrap, of course, summer is coming!

Feeling a little behind

Its a little dreary outside and I think its making me feel sluggish. I have so much I would like to get done, I have that anticipated feeling of being behind. I really hope I can get something done today its only 9:20am but it feels like 5pm already. I think coffee is in order.

Silk dribbling on rooftop

Whenever I get together with my friends, here in Kairouan, it's always the same subject that comes up. There is absolutely nothing fun to do here in this city, no parks, attractions, beautiful spaces. I told one of my friends the fun I had, the other day, just hanging up my cloths on my rooftop to dry. I took it a little further and did some painting on this silk scarf. I find I am most happiest when I am doing and sharing what I know. It's a slower process then what I would like it to be but one step at a time.

I have found some wonderful people to help me out with my painting and sewing. I can speak broken arabic just enough to get the point across and make connections. The next big project involves some haggling over the price of fabric, I am not a charismatic fluent speaker. I know if I don't do it, it will never get done. So, in a city where I am still considered a tourist, I need to find my courage and go out to buy fabric.

It's a little hard to see the motif at this angle, some turquoise and orange are showing up

Something About Me in Time for Spring

I love getting lost in time making something special, sometimes its painting on silk or at the sewing machine just plugging away with my little by my side.

I started sewing with my mom when I was about 8 years old. I would sit next to her side by side sewing together. We would sew uniforms for Bands and Drum Corps, Colorguards and Dance. My dresses for prom and friends dresses for weddings. We took a quilting class together when I was 12, it was the one of the best experiences I had with my mom (I highly recommend doing, BTW) Sewing has always brought me closer to the people I love and the has opened doors in ways one would not think possible. Painting is a creative outlet, putting the magic of color on silk can never get boring. I have spent several years just trying new things with silk. I started doing scarves and then silk flags for bands and colorguards. Now I am working with sewing my silks into bolero vests & dresses, I will through some blouses in the mix when I find just the right pattern. So many ideas, there isn't enough time for them all. I have decided to focus on what I like and would love to wear, this help to narrow down the collection.

January, I was focused on using up some of my silk stash and getting small projects done and out of the way. February is building for spring, it will be here before we know it. I have some pretty bolero just waiting to be fixed and sewn along with several dresses. Looking forward to March when my shop will start to look like I have been working. Believe me, I have been working, Patently waiting to show my new collection.

How much do I need to pay for theses?

My daughter painted theses beauties with acrylic. I must say I am one proud Momma! The only problem is she wants to sell them but how can I allow this? They are just to awesome to sell, how much do I need to pay? She did give me a price and I think I have failed as a parent to teach my daughter humility. On the other hand she is not short changing herself and time. Parenting is a damned if you do damned if you don't kind of beast and we are always at odds.

I have thought about playing the I birthed you card and calling it even... escape the whole moral odds and go strait for guilt. Will begging work? Please, I want to keep them, please o please. Chocolate bar ohhh now there's an idea, I think she may go for that.

Any suggestions, how much should I pay?
